The short answer is that the GED test will no longer be offered in the State of Maine. Read on for more info and to get started on the new HiSET exam!
For years, the State of Maine has used the General Educational Development test to administer and issue the state equivalency diploma, which we widely recognize as the "GED". Last year, when the GED Testing Service announced that the test would be changing in 2014 to solely computer based testing with projected increases in cost, the state opened up a competitive bidding process for a new test. Through this process, the state selected ETS (Educational Testing Service) to offer its High School Equivalency Test, or HiSET exam, beginning in January 2014.
While it was originally thought that students' GED progress would be lost, it has been decided that ETS will provide a limited window of opportunity to transition current GED tests to the new 2014 HiSET. As of 2015, however, it is likely that GED scores will no longer be considered toward HiSET exam completion. For those with fewer than 5 official GED tests, there's still time to have them count toward the HiSET exam! For all others, start working on the HiSET exam now! Call 345-3217 for an appointment.
